Make-A-Wish Foundation

Every child dreams of growing up one day.  Back in 1980, one boy wished to become a police officer, however, he was also being treated for Leukemia.  By granting him this dream for a day, the Make-A-Wish Foundation was born with the simple mission of enriching the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Years later, this amazing organization has granted almost 175,000 wishes for children in the United States.  From a trip to Disney World to a shopping spree or a day with a celebrity, the Make-A-Wish Foundation can grant it.  As we set out to accomplish something we have dreamed about, we ask for your help in making more of these most important wishes come true for other children.

Our journey will take us through eight states from California to the great state of Georgia.  Our initial goal is to grant one wish for each state we pass through.  As we are certain each state will leave a lasting impression on us, we would like to do the same for our Make-A-Wish recipients.  A few facts about the Make-A-Wish Foundation:

  • The Foundation grants a wish every 40 minutes
  • Typically wishes fall into four catagories: To be (i.e., a zookeeper, a firefighter, a baker), To meet (i.e., a favorite celebrity or athelete), To have (i.e., a computer, a playhouse, a puppy) or To go (i.e., to a theme park, Hawaii, a major sporting event)
  • The average cost of a wish is $7,362 (as of March 2009)
